Day 19 – Hsinchu to Taipei – Finishing the round

8. November 2018 mobile 2018 Taiwan, Trips

2018-11-07 Start: 10:00 / 107 km / 532 hm While leaving dreadful Hsinchu, I was quite undecided on which route to take – either through the mountains or on the sea. Chose the sea route and it turned out to be fairly nice, nothing comparable to yesterday’s constant autobahn. Allthough being a little bit adventurous due to constant construction works,

Day 18 – Taichung to Hsinchu – Constant autobahn

7. November 2018 mobile 2018 Taiwan, Trips

2018-11-06 Start: 11:00 / 101 km / 665 hm This was the most boring ride of the whole trip. Thought it would lead along the seaside, but it was just a sideway accompanying a huge motorway along the coast – for most of the time. Didn’t saw much of the sea, constant noise from the motorway, so loud I wasn’t

Day 17 – Sun Moon lake and Taichung – Taking it easy

6. November 2018 mobile 2018 Taiwan, Trips

2018-11-05 Start: 12:30 / 29 km / 400 hm Woke up quite late, completely hungover. Was quite tight to check out on point. Had some oden as breakfast and encountered a strange dog from the evening before at the convenience store again. He seemed to be in fact a stray dog, later met him again. Looks like all those stray dogs get

Day 16 – Dounan to Sun Moon lake – Getting into it

6. November 2018 mobile 2018 Taiwan, Trips

2018-11-04 Start: 10:30 / 69 km / 1039 hm Left the hotel of horrors, fortunately sleep was better than supposed. Day started of with a typical west coast section. Long straight roads with loads of lights stopping you every 200m. Psst, don’t tell anyone – started skipping lights by cycling shortly on the ‘sidewalk’. Otherwise it would have taken forever.

Day 15 – Tainan to Dounan – Endless rice paddies and hotel of horrors

6. November 2018 mobile 2018 Taiwan, Trips

2018-11-03 Start: 11:00 / 106 km / 525 hm When leaving the hotel I was quite amused by some Austrian tourists – there seemed to be Pokémon Go community day and all these middle aged men were talking about, was some monsters they’re trying to find. Strange holiday activity. I knew before that the west coast isn’t definitely up to

Day 15 – Stay tuned

Day 14 – Kaohsiung to Tainan – Diggin’ the crates

3. November 2018 mobile 2018 Taiwan, Trips

2018-11-02 Start: 11:00 / 57 km / 374 hm Short ride, but nevertheless very dull and uninspiring. Loads of lights on big streets, stopping you every 500m. Timing of the lights was for cars and motorbikes, so stop and go all the time. Annoying. Met Ming from Singapore at 7-11 on the suburbs of Kaohsiung. Very nice fellow, also into

Day 13 – Kenting to Kaohsiung – Escape from Yutu

2. November 2018 mobile 2018 Taiwan, Trips

2018-11-01 Start: 10:30 / 113 km / 660 hm When I woke up, storm was still ultra heavy. Thought about staying one more night, but this would set me back too way back on the timetable. Looking at the maps and the forecast, I could see it would get better in the north. So bit into the sour apple and

Day 12 – Kenting – Day at the sea – waiting for Yutu to stop

1. November 2018 mobile 2018 Taiwan, Trips

2018-10-31 Just took a rest day for the legs and also to wait for the heavy winds to stop. This was an incredible windy day, white noise in the ears all day, also having to hold everything you’re taking with you. Yutu (the taifun) is far away, but still never experienced such strong winds. First cleaned the bicycle from the

Travelling alone – boring or freedom?

31. October 2018 mobile 2018 Taiwan, Travelling, Trips

I just noticed that many people here in Taiwan seem to be really astonished the moment you tell them you’re travelling alone, all by yourself. May it be just occasional or if you arrive at a hotel, they often ask for the second person. Only one? No wife? No children? If i would have, this trip would be even cheaper,
